Wednesday 10th to Saturday 13th at
Ramsgate Operatic Society presents Lionel Bart’s warm and moving wartime musical "BLITZ!".
The story centres on the relationship between a Jewish family, the Blitzteins, and a Cockney family, the Lockes, living in war-torn London in the 1940s.
As war rages across Europe and the East End of London takes a pounding from Hitler's bombs, conflict develops between rival Petticoat Lane stall holders Mrs Blitztein and Alfie Locke. But when their children fall in love and the bombing intensifies, both families are forced to examine their animosity and stubbornness.
Written whilst his most successful musical “Oliver!” was still running, Blitz! is based on Bart’s childhood memories and is peppered with some of his finest musical numbers. The musical features delightful, toe-tapping, upbeat songs and sweeping ballads, including one specially written for and recorded by “the forces sweetheart” Vera Lynn whose 100th birthday is this year.
Enlist today by signing up for this great family musical filled with humour and heartbreak and celebrating the war time spirit!
An amateur production by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe).
